Slender, serated leaves distinguish Chinkapin from other Oaks, giving the tree a shaggy, slightly tropical feel. Tolerates dry, alkaline soils and resists chlorosis common to Maple and other Oak trees. Does not like wet soil. The silver undersides of the leaves shimmer in the breeze. Yellow fall color.
